In early december MTD landscape architects presented the sketch design for the Dam square and its surroundings during a second participation session in Zaandam. The Dam, holds a pivotal position in the design as the 'Living Room of Zaandam'.

The design received a positive reception from attendees, including entrepreneurs and real estate owners, inhabitants, members of various working groups and the municipality.The sketch design is based on the Integral Vision for the inner city of Zaandam, drewn up by the bureau in an earlier stage. In the sketch design the line of the historic dike (around the origin of Zaandam) in combination with other structuring lines are understood as a spatial frame for the public space. By this the cultural and historical values of the area are respected and space is provided for the extensive program.Within the sketch design a number of options are presented for the design of the terrace zone, the central space around the statue of Czaar Peter and possibilities for introducing more green.

MTD landscape architects will work the coming months on the sketch design to a preliminary design. The preliminary design will be presented to all concerned stakeholders at a third participation session.
