As the final part of the 1st phase of the redevelopment of the Wilhelminaplein in
's-Hertogenbosch, two enormous natural stone slabs with historical engravings were hoisted into the floor of the watchman's house last Friday. The keeper's house or the stage that is a reference to the historic keeper's house at the Pieckepoort.

Both engravings make the historical layering of this special place tangible and visible; the first engraving is a historical cityscape of 's-Hertogenbosch and the Pieckepoort from 1560 by van Wijgaerde and the second is a fragment from the historical map image of the Epugnatio Sylvae-Ducis from 1629, which shows the position of this place in the Line 1629. Both substantiate the significance of Wilhelminaplein in the historic city
's-Hertogenbosch. A meaning that takes on a (re)new(ed) meaning within the redesign of the square, designed by MTD landscape architects. From city gate, to canal park, to traffic square, to city wall park with a theatrical meaning; a junction of slow traffic routes and a backdrop for many meetings and uses.

The square has already acquired significance in 's-Hertogenbosch as a contemporary meeting place and theatrical stage. And the focus is of course the realization of the 2nd phase, in which the the existing foundations of the Pieckepoort will become visible again!
