Cuijk is located in the northeast of the province of North Brabant on the western bank of the Maas River. The municipality of Land van Cuijk aims to improve the quality of Cuijk's town center. In 2015, MTD Landscape Architects was commissioned to develop a visual quality plan and a final design for the public space in the town center of Cuijk.

To shape the desired spatial and functional structure, the municipality of Land van Cuijk created the "Heart for Encounters" vision for Cuijk's town center. In implementing this vision, the municipality aimed to create a visual quality plan and a comprehensive design for the public space in the shopping area. Both documents were produced by MTD and serve as a guideline to make the center more attractive, recognizable, and future-proof.

The MTD landscape architects' design focuses on climate-adaptive measures, promoting interaction, and enhancing the experience of the public space, while also incorporating historical references to the town's Roman past. The predominantly paved center of Cuijk is transformed with more greenery and water features. A selection of native trees and plants softens the appearance of the center, providing shaded seating areas and cooling the environment. At the Louis Jansenplein, a water feature was introduced, referencing the Maas River, with playful fountains symbolizing the surrounding church villages.

After delivering the final design, MTD landscape architects also developed the technical design and ensured quality during the phased realization through aesthetic supervision.
