Tommy Hendriks BA

sustainability strategist

In 2013, after completing the course ‘bachelor or arts – History’ at the University of Amsterdam and Shanghai Fudan University, Tommy founded a company in China related to music festivals, lifestyle and sustainability. The daily confrontation with an overpopulated society in China, breathing in smog, walking around in polluted landscapes and the lack of nature; provided a strong intrinsic motivation to inspire a wide public about sustainability through the business activities and to encourage more sustainable behavior.

Tommy's original style of creative entrepreneurship, positive impact of projects and contribution to the export of Dutch culture to China; resulted in an honorable appointment by the Dutch consulate in Shanghai. In 2017 he was voted 'Most influential Dutch cultural entrepreneur in Shanghai.'

In 2019, Tommy returned to the Netherlands and further specialized in sustainable urban development and sustainable business transitions through part-time studies at the AMS Institute and University of Cambridge - Institute for Sustainability Leadership. From 2020 – 2022 he worked at the Municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch department of sustainability and since the spring of 2022 Tommy has been working with great pleasure on making MTD Landscape Architects more sustainable, with a focus on both internal business operations and strengthening the sustainable impact of projects.

At the moment, he is actively involved as a project leader at MTD Landscape Architects in two projects in Deurne: the sustainable transition and climate-adaptive redevelopment of the Kranenmortel business park and the development of a new business park, Kranenmortel Zuid. In addition, Tommy is working on the content of the strategic document Code Groen Tilburg and the redevelopment of the Molenhoekplein in Valburg.
