Historic blue crane arrived at De Noordkade in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht!

November 1, 2022

The Noordkade, Hendrik Ido Ambacht's new town square on the mighty North River, is making steady progress. MTD landscape architects are working on a master plan and layout plan for the entire quay, commissioned by the municipality of Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht.
The two striking white buildings guide the axis from land to water and from square to quay. This week the restored, historic blue crane will be sailed in. Not as a relic of earlier times, but with a new meaning as a gateway to and from the Fast Ferry, the boat between Rotterdam and Dordrecht. The crane is an eye-catcher on the quay; pedestrians and cyclists, residents and tourists will soon pass through the Ferry under the crane.
The realization of the water artwork on the square is also progressing; the stones hewn in China are approaching. The 70-meter-long fountain will soon contain the names of 120 ships, which have been dismantled over the past 100 years in the shipyard that was located here.
The square and the quay will become a worthy entrance for De Noordkade.
