Whale watchers at post 12, den Hoorn Texel

January 14, 2016

On Tuesday the 12th of January, 5 sperm whales have washed up on the beach of Texel at post 12 near den Hoorn. Unfortunately the next morning all sperm whales have died. A large number of whale watchers came to take a look at ‘Post 12’

The beach ramps of den Hoorn have been in the picture for a longer time now. In the fall of 2015 the foundation Loodsen door het Landschap together with the municipality of Texel, Staatbosbeheer and the owners of the beach pavilions of post 9 and 12 have issued a competition to increase the attractiveness of the beach ramps and to improve their implementation into the natural surroundings. This includes the nearby parking areas and beach pavilions. The vision of MTD landscape architects / urban designers for this assignment came out on top, and in January 2016 MTD furthered the development of the original vision for the beach ramps to an executable design.
MTD strives to reach completion of den Hoorn’s beach ramps for it’s beach visitors and whale watchers during the summer season of 2017.
