Festive opening of Forum Tilburg square

July 24, 2015

On 3 July 2015 there was a festive opening of the urban Forum square in the Reeshof in Tilburg. The opening event was carried out by a group of children who cycled on the bicycle path which runs through the complex on bicycles that were festively decorated.
Speeches were made by Marc Buster / Van der Weegen Bouwontwikkeling (construction development), Alina Zwierstra / WonenBreburg (housing corporation) and City Councillor Berend de Vries. They all spoke with pride about the results achieved with the project. Its success is apparent from the fact that the complex is almost entirely occupied on completion.
Forum is a development by Van der Weegen Bouwontwikkeling and WonenBreburg, and concerns the realisation of a prominent high-rise building complex with various shops and catering facilities on the ground floor. In addition, it comprises 130 owner-occupied residences, 77 luxury rental apartments, a healthcare centre, a large parking garage and a rather special square in direct proximity to Reeshof Station.
In 2011 MTD landschapsarchitecten was assigned to draw up a design for a high-grade metropolitan square within the complex, which has a direct correlation with the high-rise building, provides for varied usage and creates an attractive habitable area. The assignment also involves two roof gardens and an atrium in the complex.
The roofing technology, the implementation budget and the manageability formed the most important limiting conditions for the design of the square situated on the deck of the parking garage, the roof gardens and the atrium.
After completion, management of the square was transferred to the Municipality of Tilburg.

The design of the square can be described as a paved carpet with a scattering of seating objects in combination with tree basins. For the lighting, high masts with spotlights have been introduced which augment the urban nature of the surroundings. It is an unobtrusive, austere and carefully detailed setting, which coheres narrowly with the architecture of the buildings of BedauxdeBrouwer architects and DATarchitecten.
MTD landschapsarchitecten was responsible for the design, the technical elaboration and the supervision of the call for tenders and the implementation of Brickanos.
