Eddie Förster, the alderman for Urban Development and Spatial Planning of the municipality of Breda, opened the meeting and congratulated everyone, but in particular Richard Schul of Schonk, Schul & Compagnie. With enormous courage and ultimately a beautiful result, they have realized the final plan as developer and initiator.
During the afternoon, attention was paid to the history of the complex and all matters that have influenced the final result. From former initiators, architects, owners and developers to former administrators, nature parties and civil servants. Too many people to mention, but all with an important contribution to the total process. What was most evident from all the stories was the passion and love for the 'Gesamtkunstwerk' and its special environment.
The final urban development, landscape and architectural design ideas were presented by Frank Meijer (MTD Landscape Architects) and Marcel Snellenberg (RIENKS Architects). MTD Landscape Architects has been working on the urban development master plan and landscape design plan for the public space of De Klokkenberg since 2017.
This was followed by a tour of and through the former sanatorium, during which the diversity of completed homes and thus also the diversity of residents became visible.
Finally finished? Not quite yet, because a number of new construction projects are currently being worked on, such as the Boskamer and the Klassepaviljoens. When these projects are finished, expected to be completed in 2026, De Klokkenberg will really be finished!
